September 2014 update

The end of September approaches and the lovely long summer is finishing as autumn begins its season. This is a thank you letter Dear Movers as I approach the end of my treatment for cancer. Radiotherapy has started and will continue daily Monday to Friday till 21 October.

Some of you have been along for the whole ride from the diagnosis in February, chemo, surgery and finally radio, others have been present for parts of the journey and I have felt and am grateful for the support of all of you.

Yoga has been my strength, offering physical support and more, my family and friends have been a source of mental fitness and joy and you dear movers have been keeping me spiritually uplifted. The classes have underpinned my sense of wellbeing, as every ounce of energy I given has been returned 100 fold. All together it has helped me maintain a sense of balance and positivity.

September has started well after the long break, great to see familiar faces returning and to welcome new practitioners to classes. I am quietly excited about Monday evening class becoming Mysore practice which will allow more flexibility in starting times and offers one of the unique features of the Ashtanga method which is going at your own pace within the class structure, with me assisting and guiding. There is still the Thursday evening for those who would like taught class.

Morning class numbers have continued well with the light, unusually sunny days bringing energy to the practice. Thursday mornings are Mysore, with Wednesday offering opportunity to clarify and investigate the asanas.

Breathing Bones is going well and if you would like to give your body a treat stretching and releasing at this hibernating time of year, you would be most welcome.

After radiotherapy finishes on 21 October I am taking a week off. I am going to my wee hoose in Crete, assimilating the experiences of this year, which have been many.

I can recommend a wonderful project by Kia Naddernmier at Mysore Yoga Paris, to raise awareness and support the Keep a Breast Foundation.
