Chair Yoga is great for stretching out and loosening tension, for encouraging movement into muscles and joints. This is a lovely alternative to getting down on the mat, working all the same stretches and twists, to build flexibility, strength and balance, as well as a full breath.
This Lakshmi Voelker Chair Yoga class incorporates a range of other movement practices alongside more recognisable yoga postures.
All you need is a stable chair, where you can get your feet safely on the ground, preferably without arms so that you can turn from side to side, and some space around you to move legs and arms freely.
The classes are accessible to everyone, whatever your level of flexibility or fitness: whether getting up and down from the mat isn’t for you, or you are stuck for space to roll a mat out, or would just like to try something different.
